Up-scaling Water Credit through Guardian for providing safe drinking water and sanitation facilities to the needy.


Gramalaya with the financial assistance from Water.org, USA, have been working through Guardian MFI in providing safe drinking water and accessible sanitation facilities in the selected Blocks of Pudukottai, Namakkal and Perambalur Districts. The project titled as Upscaling Water Credit through Guardian is managed by Guardian in the above operational areas. The administrative and overhead costs including capacity building are supported from Gramalaya with Water.org fund, Guardian is providing micro-loans to the target clientele identified. The project which was commenced from 1st August,2012 will end on 31st January, 2016 covering a total project period of 42 months. Through this project, 12,000 families will be covered with safe drinking water facilities by availing Water loans from Guardian by installing individual household water tap connections from the piped water supply system of the Government and 3000 families will be covered with cost effective household toilets through the loan support. Apart from awareness camps and baseline survey in the operational areas, the project will impact 60,000 people with safe drinking water and sanitation facilities. Under this project, there would be a total of 15,000 families would be covered with water and sanitation facilities. In addition to the above activities, Guardian will work with the potential stakeholders in the region including meeting with the bankers and other financial institutions.
