UNICEF - Thally Sanitation Project

Thally is considered as Little England because of its climatic conditions and landscape. Thally Block is in Krishnagiri District of Tamil Nadu at the border of Karnataka State about 65 km. from Bangalore city. With the financial support from UNICEF, Chennai, Gramalaya has selected 10 model villages where intensive hygiene education sessions were conducted with PRA and community mobilization works. Under this project, low-cost leach pit toilets are constructed at the households utilizing the funding support from UNICEF and the TSC program. Gramalaya conducted base line survey, participatory rural appraisal (PRA), awareness camps, OHT operators training and masons training in all project villages with the support of UNICEF.

A total of 200 household toilets will be constructed in the target villages with Ballapalli and Sithandapuram village as model villages. The school and anganwadi toilets are renovated in Sarandapalli, Mavanatti, Sithandapuram and Ballapalli villages for usage by the school children. AWASH Association for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene committees are formed in the target villages where awareness and training were provided to the communities.
