Appropriate Technology for Water, Sanitation and Energy


Gramalaya was started in the year 1987 at Woraiyur, Tiruchirappalli. Since 1987, Gramalaya is implementing water and sanitation programs in the rural and urban areas of Tiruchirappalli District and in the tribal and tsunami affected areas in Tamil Nadu.Gramalaya has the experience of working with different cost effective toilet models suitable for rural and urban areas right from dry toilets, leach-pit toilets with honey comb brick work and eco-san toilet models. The Centre for Toilet Technology and Training was inaugurated by Mr.Gary White, Co-Founder, Water.org in the year 2004 as a part of NIWAS National Institute of Water and Sanitation. NIWAS located at Gramalaya Training Centre which is recently approved by the Ministry of Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation, Government of India as one of the Key Resource Centres for providing training on water and sanitation.
