Alliance for Water and Sanitation promotion in Tamil Nadu

The Arghyam, Bangalore funding support will ensure Gramalaya as a resource NGO for supporting three field NGOs selected in Perambalur, Namakkal and Pudukottai Districts for accelerating water and sanitation coverage in these regions. Gramalaya will provide technical, professional, grant support for the field NGOs LEAF, ANNAI and INDO selected under this project as a part of handholding capacity for next three years and for covering the software components planned. Guardian MFI will work closely with Gramalaya and three field NGOs for providing water and sanitation loans as a part of WaterCredit Initiatives. While the software support cost would be met by Arghyam, the hardware support for construction and creation water and sanitation assets will be mobilized from Guardian MFI.

To achieve the target set under these two projects, Guardian MFI will deploy Rs.7.5 crore as leverage fund. A total 9,000 families will be benefited with water and sanitation facilities including hygiene education through three years field intervention. So as to ensure sustainability of the project, village-level volunteers are promoted by these organizations as WATSAN Promoters who will remain in the project areas and act as the community change agents. These grass-root-level volunteers will work in co-ordination with the implementing organizations and Guardian MFI for ensuring the loans disbursed for water and sanitation facilities, assets created, maintained and used by the benefiting families. National-level workshop on designing and developing low-cost sanitation options, child-to-child approach through school health program are the other major components of the project activities.
