Corporate Partnerships for Sanitation Promotion
Swachh Ghar Mission Program with the support by VST Industries Ltd., Hyderabad
A new concept has been developed for improving the water and sanitation status in the rural areas of three Districts covering 3 States namely Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. It was proposed to provide accessible sanitation facilities to 1120 families in the first phase of 2015 - 2016. The project will ensure capacity building support for the community based organisations and for the field staff working under the Swachh Ghar Mission program launched by VST Industries Limited through Gramalaya and ANNAI partnership wherein the NGOs play the role of implementation and VST Industries Ltd., providing grant assistance for the project. In addition to the community mobilisation program, the project will ensure training for the masons on SMART Toilets with bathroom attached for the rural households with incinerator for disposal of used sanitary napkins, hygiene education among the communities and child-to-child to approach for sustainable hygiene promotion.
Gramalaya and ANNAI NGO through its trained Water and Sanitation Promoters (WSPs), will impart hygiene education for sustained behavioural changes and hygiene practices in the operational areas selected under this project villages covering Raichur District in Karnataka State, Mahaboob Nagar in Telangana State and Kurnool District in Andhra Pradesh State. The training support provided to WATSAN Committees will enable more people's participation in the water and sanitation program which would improve the environmental sanitation of the villages by stopping and reducing the open defecation practices in the villages through household sanitation coverage, safe drinking water supply by installation of India Mark II hand pumps.
In this project, Gramalaya is working as the Resource NGO for providing accessible water and sanitation facilities through its Field Partner Agency - ANNAI which is implementing the project at the field-level.
